A good everyday makeup routine should take minutes, not an hour. The secret is applying products in the right order and using a light hand. Here is the routine we recommend for a fresh, polished look that lasts.
Start with prepared skin
Makeup sits best on moisturised skin. Apply your usual moisturiser and sunscreen, then wait a couple of minutes for them to settle. Rushing this step is the most common reason foundation looks patchy.
Even out your complexion
Use a small amount of foundation or tinted moisturiser only where you need it, usually the centre of the face, and blend outwards. Dab concealer under the eyes and on any blemishes, then press it in with your fingertip.
Set with powder
Lightly press pressed powder onto the T-zone with a soft brush to reduce shine and help everything stay in place. Keep the cheeks dewy if you prefer a natural finish.
Add warmth and colour
Sweep a soft rose or peach shade onto the apples of the cheeks and blend upwards towards the temples. The same shade can double as a wash of colour on the eyelids for a quick, coordinated look.
Define the eyes
- Apply a neutral eyeshadow across the lid.
- Add a slightly deeper shade in the crease for definition.
- Curl your lashes, then wiggle mascara from root to tip. One or two coats is plenty for daytime.
Finish with lips
Choose a tinted balm for an easy day, or a classic red lipstick when you want instant polish. Blot once with a tissue and reapply for longer wear.
Keep your tools clean
Clean brushes apply makeup more evenly and are kinder to skin. Wash them once a week with mild soap and lukewarm water, then leave them to dry flat.
